turismo 2.0Located 90 miles north of Caracas the capital of Venezuela, the archipelago of Los Roques is one of the biggest National Parks in the Caribbean, with impressive white sand beaches, warm and crystalline blue waters and of abundant flora and marine fauna.

The archipelago includes 22,120 hectares of sea (bigger than the US Virgin Islands), and counts more than 350 totally virgin islands including small barren sand banks and reefs that converge in an adorned central lagoon with mangles and live corals all over.

In the Gran Roque Island (the village of Los Roques) you find small lodges (Posadas) offering accommodation with all included.

A true relax away from the overcrowded destinations of the todays Caribbean.

You can also charter a sailboat fully with crew, full board and open bar, or you can also choose to spend the night in tent on the solitary islands of Francisqui and Craski nearby.

Los Roques is an ideal destiny for a relax in a locally managed Posada, onboard a yacht, sailboat or catamaran, or to practice fly fishing, diving and snorkeling. Plan your next weddings here, spend your vacations with all the family in a rented house only 20 meters from the beach or simply enjoy the sea, the beaches and the sun with your best friend. An aspect that makes of Los Roques a dream destiny is the gastronomy, mainly with fresh fish caught the same day that is served to you. Enjoy your daily lobster prepared to you by the local inhabitants with the special flavor that distinguishes this to the rest of the Caribbean.

accommodation_posadaI am in Los Roques, an archipelago off the Venezuelan coast. There is an air of excitement in the village square. Darkness has fallen, and dim bulbs dangle from leafy branches. Hundreds of locals have gathered - children in fancy dress, babies crawling in the sand, older people setting up folding chairs near the stage.

A sudden shower sends the villagers running for shelter under trees and doorways. Then there is a power cut, and a further delay while men fiddle with cables. Excited little girls in party frocks start mopping the stage. The sound system crackles into life as seven stern-faced judges take their seats behind a damask-draped table. They resolutely ignore the jeers and cheers of the crowd. The show is about to begin.
